Boyband call on “truly amazing” fans to pressure governments ahead of UN climate summit in Paris this December
By Ed King
Phew. Fears a UN climate deal could be in trouble have been quashed with news hit boyband One Direction are mustering support for global emission cuts.
The jet-setting four (not five – get with the news, people) have released a call to arms to their supporters, known colloquially as Directioners.
“In 2015 we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to change the world for the better,” they say in a video statement.
“This year, leaders will gather at two vital meetings to set new goals and targets to begin tackling poverty, inequality and climate change.
“Show what you care about. Your photos and videos on this site will tell everyone about the things that matter to you.
“And in September we’ll launch a specially commissioned film made from thousands of your contributions to show world leaders the world you want to live in. Listen out for news of the launch.”
Expect the UN to sign them up as climate ambassadors ASAP. Robert Redford was always a bit old.
